“The Moon Song” is a brand-new track by Karen O, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman. It is being given away for free on Soundcloud until it’s been downloaded 10,000 times, after which point it will only be available for streaming The track, which is a simple but lovely acoustic number, was written specifically for Spike Jonze’s new film Her. The song is actually performed in the movie by stars Scarlett Johansson and Joaquin Phoenix. It’s about a man (Phoenix) who falls in love with a computer voiced by Johansson and we have a feeling it just might be Jonze’s most wildly imaginative film yet. It opens on December 18 in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto and is slated to have a wide release on January 10.
This is the second time Karen O collaborates with Jonze. She previously recorded the soundtrack for his 2009 movie Where the Wild Things Are, which earned her a Grammy and a Golden Globe nomination.
The soundtrack for Her will also feature Arcade Fire.
