#songoftheday / VIDEO: KARYN CRISIS: “THE ALCHEMIST”
There’s metal and there’s epic metal. File “The Alchemist” by Karyn Crisis under epic metal. It starts off subtle and sweet, Karyn delivering clean, beautiful vocals. But that only lasts for so long. After that lovely little intro, her voice suddenly changes, sounding deeper, creepier, louder. And angrier. And if that’s not heavy enough for you, one of the guys in her band soon delivers some intense death metal, grunting style vocals. But we haven’t heard Karyn’s full range yet! She eventually unleashes her own death metal style vocals, though hers are more of the vicious growling variety. It’s enough to make you think she’s channeling a demon. By the time the song is over after six minutes and thirty five seconds you will feel like you’ve truly experienced something. Sure, listening to any song is an experience, but this one makes you feel as though you’ve actually been through something horrific, the song’s emotions having surely stirred you to the point that you found yourself feeling how Karyn likely felt when she wrote the song.
