From 2009 to 2013 Dalea was the lead singer/founder of Quimera Music, a symphonic rock band. Now solo, she has changed gears and shifted into the realm of pop. Her new single, “Speed Racer,” is a delicious mix of electro and synth pop with a very chic, futuristic, sci-fi vibe that makes it immediately intriguing. More than that, it’s highly infectious as its gorgeous synth radiates like colorful lasers at a concert and its beats pounce along like magnets being drawn to and pulled from your metal head. OK, so that sounds a bit painful, but suffice to say you find it drawn toward you and it’s ultimately going to grab you whether you want it to or not. It’s that irresistible. Dalea also has one of the most unique voices I’ve ever heard. Imagine Placebo’s Brian Molko’s voice spliced with that of Grace Jones. You can’t get more original than that.
The video for “Speed Racer” finds Dalea playing two roles and is ultimately about how we have to get back up when life knocks us down. It blows my mind every time I watch it, as it’s like a little sci-fi movie and the quality is incredible. You’d swear it must have cost a million dollars to make, but I’m assuming it was made for much less since Dalea is an independent artist.
Dalea also has an interesting backstory, as she was born with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome and is intersex accordingly, something she’s been open about since 2014. She is the founder of the Inspiration, Advocacy and Diversity awareness campaign “Girl Comet” https://www.facebook.com/girlcomet and has already been featured in such magazines as Cosmopolitan and VADA. She’s been a keynote speaker about diversity at NYU and other places as well. Currently, she is hard at work on her forthcoming album VISITOR, which will be released during Spring 2016. We can’t wait to hear it!
