#songoftheday = DAWN RICHARD: “CALI SUN”

D∆WN, better known as Dawn Richard, veers  in a mainstream R&B/pop direction with her new single “Cali Sun,” which hails from her third album, Redemption, which is said to be the “final installment in the trilogy.”   I was a big fan of the two previous albums, Goldenheart and Blackheart, which were both very abstract sort of R&B albums, more like FKA twigs than the catchy song we hear here, but this isn’t exactly top 40 radio fodder either.  To that end, I’d still say her sound is very artsy, just more accessible.  Can you dig it?

After creating 3 visuals for her lastest single “Not Above That” as well as an Avante Garde Fashion Film for “Wake Up”, Dawn is now releasing a fully animated piece Directed by herself for her third single “Cali Sun”. The piece was to show the metaphor of dreams in California. “For the artists in the industry, their dreams rise and set like the California Sun. Nothing is promised but nothing is more beautiful at the same time”. The animated film is also designed to go along with the series animated shorts she designed for Adult Swim creating a another cohesive installation for the Redemption Album.
