#songoftheday = Asking Alexandria – “The Black”

While I have heard a few songs by Asking Alexandria before, I haven’t heard enough of them to say whether or not this is the first time they use clean vocals, but the mix of clean vocals and screaming here is quite powerful.   According to Wiki, they’re a metalcore band, and I suppose that best describes the over all music here, but then there’s a gentle, acoustic, piano part with warm strings.  “I need to cut you out / I need to count you out,” is sung softly… Then there’s a few more words before it gradually gets heavier and erupts again, only to get quieter during the end.  It’s definitely one of the most epic and fully fleshed out metal songs I’ve heard all year.  So many styles meshing together perfectly.  If there’s someone in your life who’s bad for you, who makes you feel like you’re drowning when you’re around them, or sucks the life right out of you, this song would be the perfect anthem to listen to as you write your big fuck off speech.
