Have you ever found yourself with bad habits you needed to break? If ever anyone needed to do that, it’s Adam Jensen. With several arrests and ties to an illegal gambling ring, he’s lucky to be alive and he found himself desperately needing a new habit. What did he turn to? Thankfully, for all of us, he turned to music.
Adam tends to envision his music as punk rock and there is a certain punk spirit to his tunes, but to my ears, they’re exquisitely produced pop gems. Musically, they’re glimmering, and they ultimately carry forth a message of hope, but there’s also a darkness to them as Adam paints a portrait of the world he left behind to ultimately write his songs. “If I could break these chains / Leave my past behind me / I’d be a better man,” he sings on his latest single, the soulful “Ritual.” You can feel him struggling to rise up from the concrete as you listen to him cry out, begging for his life via his emotive vocals and vivid lyrics. It’s a tale from the streets of Boston and, more importantly, it’s a true story. Pop music doesn’t get more authentic than this.
Here’s the impressive video for Adam’s second single, “Numb,” which looks like it cost a million bucks:
